Jaguar Begins Work on C-X75 Concept

Jaguar has started working on its latest model, the C-X75, supposed to be powered by microturbinetechnology that is still in the developmental stages. But this hardly existing technology would be the main highlight of the vehicle, according to the automaker.
The automaker said that instead of microturbines, the new model will be powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that can generate over 500 horsepower via forced induction. The direct-injected powerplant mixed with turbocharger and supercharger that works with front and rear electric motors would send a power of about 500hp to the rear wheels.

With this powertrain the vehicle can sprint from 0-60 mph in just below three seconds with a top speed of over 200 miles per hour. Even though, there are provisions for a full electric mode and a hybridmode, there are fewer chances for a pure gasoline-powered mode. Jaguar claims the C-X75 will be capable of running in a pure electric mode for 37 miles like the extended-range hybrids.
Jaguar however, plans to develop five validation prototypes before it will commission a limited run. The firm expects the prototypes to decide the viability of the new model for actual production. Upon successful completion of the prototypes, the company will manufacture around 200 priced at $1.4 million each.
