Datsun India will being production of its much awaited small hatchback in Nissan's Chennai factory on the 3rd of February 2014
The Datsun Go was unveiled to worldwide audiences in July 2013 in Delhi and has since captivated the hearts and minds of a fair few individuals in India. With the Datsun Go pointed straight at the heart of the bustling hatchback segment in India and taking the fight straight to Maruti Suzuki’s doorstep, the Japanese car maker is bound to face fierce scrutiny both from the media and the Indian public.
The Datsun Go is set to launch at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo on the 6th of February and according to a recent word from Datsun representatives, production of the Datsun Go is all set to begin just a few days before. The Nissan factory in Chennai is expected to roll out the first Datsun Go on the 3rd of February 2014.
Although very limited news in terms of variants, pricing and engine options have been released, we do know a few details. For instance, the Datsun Go will share the Nissan Micra’s 1.2-litre petrol engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Although we expect a different level of tune on the Go to improve drivability and fuel-economy we expect the Datsun to be a well-sorted car to drive.
As we know, the Datsun Go’s interiors are quite different from what the norm usually dictates. With a semi bench seat configuration in the front and with oodles of legroom at the rear the Datsun Go will undoubtedly be taking the fight to the likes of the Wagon R and the Hyundai i10. The large boot too comes at quite a surprise considering the overall exterior dimensions of the car.
We also think the Datsun Go looks quite handsome with its Kei car like proportions. With a large trapezoidal grille and headlights that are wide apart, the Datsun Go is certainly one of the better-looking hatchbacks in the market. The combination of well crafted curves and distinct lines also gives the Datsun Go a certain appeal that is bound to rub off on the rather picky Indian automotive customer.
