Chevrolet Unveils Adra Compact SUV Concept, launches facelifted Beat

Adra Compact SUV concept designed by GM India technical centre; The new Beat's prices start from Rs 4.06 lakh for petrol and Rs 4.89 lakh for diesel variant
Chevrolet globally unveiled an exciting new compact SUV concept christened Adra at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. It has been designed entirely by Indian designers at the GM technical centre in Bangalore and has a very Mini Countryman-esque form. The design of the Adra was penned using Chevrolet’s global design language and if it makes it to production, will compete against the Ford EcoSport compact SUV and a host of new sub-4 metre SUVs that will be unveiled today at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo by other car manufacturers.

GM hasn’t confirmed if the concept will make it to production nor has the company revealed any specifications about the possible production car so in essence, the Adra is purely a design showcasing their Indian Technical Centre’s capabilities. There have been reports on GM not getting the Trax to India since it is more than 4 metres long. It will not slot under the small-car excise duty structure and hence the company will not be able to price it competitively. The Adra as a result is GM’s best bet to enter the compact SUV segment that has been seeing exponential growth in the past few years.
New Chevrolet Beat
Chevrolet also launched the refreshed Beat at the Indian Auto Expo. The most noticeable aspect about the Beat is the bold new front grille and the clear lens headlights with black ascents and the Beat features new fog lamp housings. Towards the rear, the taillights have been reworked and the spoiler has been redesigned too with embedded LED inserts.
On the inside, the Beat gets new silver ascents and height adjustable driver’s seat as standard while the upper variants of the Beat will also get steering mounted audio controls. The engines will stay the same which means the Beat will get the 1.2-litre petrol motor developing 80PS of power and the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder diesel engine with a power rating of 59PS. The Beat will be available in 10 variants – four petrol, two Petrol-LPG and four diesel trims.
Prices for the petrol Beat start at Rs 4.06 lakh and go up to Rs 5.25 lakh, the LPG Beat starts at Rs 4.59 lakh and the diesel Beat is priced between Rs 4.89 lakh and Rs 6.1 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom Delhi.
Chevrolet also displayed the C7 Corvette, Trailblazer SUV and Chevrolet Camaro at the Auto Expo.
