The sixth edition of the Parx Super Car Show was a major crowd puller as throngs of people gathered at the venue, while hordes lined-up on the route to witness the supercars in action
Getting up from the bed on an uncannily chilly winter morning in Mumbai can be a tedious task. Yet, as I walked towards the parking lot of Vidhan Bhavan I was amazed to see a crowd of people with everyone trying their best to get as close to the barricades as they can. One might question what prompted these people to travel from various parts of the city to gather at the location so early in the morning? But when you know the venue was to host the sixth Parx Supercar Show every query is put to rest. Supercars from brands like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Porsche, Bentley etc and the custom made Hot Rod were present at the venue soaking in the early morning sunlight to the delight of the crowd.
The cars were kept for display till 11am so that the people gathered there absorb the stunning design of these machines. As the owners got into their respective cars and fired their beasts, the crowds went into frenzy as the atmosphere was filled with the beautiful exhaust notes from the V-12, V-10, V-8 and flat-six engines. For any petrolhead it was like a live opera and they just couldn’t have enough of it as there was a thunderous roar from the crowd every moment a supercar owner revved their engines. As the cars made their way to Marine Drive, the whole stretch was filled with people armed with cameras so that they can capture a shot of their dream car blasting down the road. It was the same scene at Worli Seaface, Bandra Reclamation and wherever the cars went and the people waved and cheered in excitement.
Even though the number of cars were less compared to last year, still the total turnout was of more than 40 cars, which given the price these machines command is impressive. Overall the event was a great hit and my only qualm was that a lot of guys were hanging from the window of their cars and coming too close to the cars to click a perfect shot. One can understand that their intentions wasn’t immoral but these antics of them were putting their lives and those of the participants in danger as there were a few close calls and I just hope these guys behave politely next year. The essence of the event for me was the smiles these supercars bring on the faces of the people when their eyes fall on these dream cars and that anyone and everyone has the liberty to attend it.
The top-three cars of this year's show went to:
1. BMW X6 Hamann wide body of Mr. Yohan Poonawala
2. Lamborghini LP 700-4 Aventador of Mr. Varun Jain
3. Audi R8 V10 plus of Mr. Kaviraj Bhandari
