To tackle the newly launched Honda City, Hyundai has introduced new top-end variant with added features and plans to add more variants in its diesel line-up
It seems the effects of the newly launched fourth-generation Honda City can be felt in the corridors of Hyundai. The newly launched feature loaded City has registered bookings for more than 9,000 within weeks of it launch. And Hyundai, which has been ruling the mid-size segment with its Verna can see its crown slipping. To counter this, Hyundai has quietly added a new top-end variant of the Verna, called SX (O). The new SX (O) variant has been equipped with features like projector headlamp, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, illuminated power window switches and safety escort headlamps to make the car a more desirable proposition.
Apart from the SX (O) variant, the Korean four-wheeler manufacturer will be adding the CX variant shortly in its diesel line-up of Verna that will be powered by the 1.4-litre powerplant and it will be positioned between the existing EX and SX variants. The new CX variant will be loaded with features like electro-chromatic mirror, 2 DIN audio with bluetooth and steering controls, electrically adjustable and foldable outside mirror with turn indicators, ABS, rear parking camera with parking sensors , fully automatic temperature control and driver-side airbag.
The Verna has been warmly accepted by the Indian consumers as it has sold more than 2.37-lakh units since its introduction in 2006 and grabbed the top position in the mid-size sedan segment post the launch of the Fluidic Verna in 2011. These additions are crucial for Hyundai as the Honda City has registered over 9,000 bookings whereas it is able to sell about 4,100 units of the Verna on a monthly basis.
