The deceased driver was a man in his 50s, and was carrying a passenger at the time of the crash. The passenger, another man, aged in his 20s, walked away with only minor injuries.
Speaking with the Watford Observer, a paramedic said the driver of the Zonda was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are yet to release the driver’s identity, but it’s possible that he had just bought the car. It was allegedly unlisted recently from the website of British supercar dealer Joe Macari, according to the guys at GTSpirit.
The particular Zonda, bearing chassis number 76041, has had an interesting history. It was built in 2004 and first left the Pagani factory with a yellow exterior and black cabin.
The first owner was a man in Singapore, who later had it sent back to the factory and painted pink to match the legendary pink Cadillacs owned by Elvis Presley. The owner in Singapore also upgraded the car to Zonda F specification at the time, which saw its 7.3-liter V-12 engine upgrated to 620 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque.
The car was then sold again last year, reportedly to Macari, who added a matte red wrap to it. It is believed that its black exterior was only completed recently. It’s unclear who the current owner of the car was.
