When it comes to aftermarket customization, many supercar owners default to the idea of getting flashy wheels. Though sometimes over the top, there are a lot of very tasteful combinations that can suit most vehicles.
This stunning 2014 Mercedes SL 63 AMG roadster features Flow Forged V-FF 101 wheels in matte black, fitted with a double staggered setup with 19×8.5J in the front and 20x11J in the rear, the lightweight V-FF 101 wheels in matte black suits the already aggressive characteristics of the SL 63 AMG.
Both the Mazda MX-5 and Toyota GT86 (Scion FR-S) suffer from having too little power, whichever one you go for. This is apparent whatever sporty car you climb out of before driving either of them, but as the EVO video posted below tries to illustrate, there’s no harm in trying to improve these cars to really make the best of their chassis.
First off, the Toyota can be had with a list of factory updates, in the form of a TRD kit. However, that does nothing to up the power and torque of the GT86, the car’s two main quibbles. It does address the grip problem brought about by the use of 17-inch Prius tires in the basic car by swapping them out for larger 18-inch forged rims with much better rubber.
Still not fast enough, but that’s where the MX-5, tuned by BBR, comes in with 70 hp more than the stock GT86, courtesy of a turbo kit. It’s a car that has been slightly neglected ever since the Toyobaru came out, but as the folloowing comparison illustrates, in this slightly-tuned guise, it’s actually a better choice (for the money).
Tyga is well known for his car collection and now the rapper seems determined to start the year in fashion. Literally.West Coast Customs has recently used their Instagram account to give us two images of a Maybach Landaulet that’s receiving modification work for Tyga.
One of the pics shows the West Coast Customs shop holding not one, but two Maybachs - a Maybach 62, the model on which the Landaulet is based, is shown alongside Tyga’s car.
These teasers of a menacing-looking Lamborghini Aventador coupe dressed in a racy black outfit come to us courtesy of German sports- and luxury-car tuner DMC, which has prepared a new package for the Italian supercar under the "LP988 Edizione GT" moniker.
While very few details have been released about DMC's third tuning project for the Aventador after the Molto Veloce (Stage 1) and Limited Edition SV (Stage 2), there's more to the moniker than simply numbers, as the aftermarket firm's naming system usually refers to output figures.
Therefore, the LP988 should correspond to 988PS or 975hp, up from the stock model's 700PS or 690hp.
For a competitively small aftermarket firm like Vilner, creating a uniquely designed project out of an existing car like the E63 BMW 6-Series Coupe-based Bullshark, is understandably, a big deal.
Named and styled after the infamous testosterone-filled shark species, Vilner's BMW Bullshark represents a complete overhaul of the Chris Bangle-era (pre-facelift) 645 Ci, with only the roof and the doors remaining unchanged from the donor car.
The most eye-catching exterior bits of the Bulgarian design studio's work on the BMW include the sharper looking front end with a pencil-mustache style kidney grille and the Infiniti FX-sourced headlamps, the heavily creased front and rear fender extensions and the side gill design.
While pricey when new, BMW's Z4 roadster can be acquired for reasonable prices in the second-hand market as it depreciates faster than other bimmers. If you already own one and want to give it a more distinct look with carbon fiber parts, German aftermarket firm MB Individual Cars has prepared a special edition package limited to just 25 units.
Presented here on an E89 Z4 35is, the kit comes with a host of exterior appointments made from carbon fiber, including front lip spoiler and bumper trims, double kidney grille, side skirts, mirror caps, boot spoiler, rear apron fender trims and even BMW's roundel badges.
Following the preview released earlier this year, the aftermarket specialists at Vorsteiner have released new photos of their tuning package for the BMW M5 sedan. The new bodykit for the F10 M5 features lightweight carbon fiber aerodynamic components, new wheels and performance products.
The most visible changes are the new aero front spoiler and aero rear diffuser, both made using Vorsteiner’s pre-preg (pre-impregnated) autoclave technology. According to the company, this technology offers superior stiffness, aerospace strength and durability compared to traditional hand laid carbon fiber composites.
The front add-on spoiler features a splitter, while the rear bumper features a diffuser replacement with one-piece integrated diffuser fins and two options for the exhaust system – one made of stainless steel and another made of titanium.
If SEMA had an equivalent in Europe, it would no doubt be the Essen Motor Show in Germany. The largest tuning event in the Old Continent is in full swing as we speak (November 30 – December 8), so we thought you’d enjoy taking a look at some of the modified cars on display at the Messe Essen.
In a way, the 2013 Essen Motor Show is like a bodybuilding contest for cars where most contestants are German and originally started life as Audis, BMWs, Mercedes or Porsches.

And for those of you wondering, the answer is yes, most of what you see is available for the rest of the R8 Coupe and Spyder range as well.
Priced at €7,950 (US$10,800), the bodykit comprises front and rear bumpers, and side skirts made from carbon fiber, with options including new tailpipes and a set of 20-inch Oxigin-Oxrock rims dressed in tires size 265/30-20 on the front axle and 305/25-20 on the rear.
