The Honda City Petrol Automatic goes up against the Volkswagen Vento Automatic in a battle of the petrol automatics
Automatics are definitely catching on. With congested roads and insufferable traffic, automatic cars seem to be the answer for hassle free driving. And, the latest in the ever increasingly portfolio of automatic cars in India is the New Honda City AT. But to see how good it is, we have the Volkswagen Vento TSI for comparison - both good cars; both with modern, refined and fuel efficient drivetrains; but only one winner.

Efficient automatics, meanwhile, is a recent occurrence. Going back in time, the older generation automatic transmissions were a far cry from the new-age auto boxes, which struggled to cut a niche in India. This, of course, was also because the technology back then wasn’t up to the mark. Most old-school automatic gearboxes were slow and cumbersome; these guzzled fuel; were inefficient; and as a result were expensive to run compared to manuals. The only reason why anyone thought of buying an automatic car back then was because of their inability to let go of the clutch pedal, correctly.
The new Honda City diesel meets the updated Hyundai Verna diesel, its fiercest rival. So, which car wins? Read on...
The new Honda City is already a success having sold more units in its first month since launch than any of its predecessors ever managed. And to do so at a time when the automotive industry isn’t in its pink of health makes this feat even more commendable. But then, the City was always a popular model and when a new generation of a popular model arrives, it always manages to do well. We call it the honeymoon period. The real challenge for the new Honda City now will be to keep this momentum going. And to do that it must first prove to be a better buying proposition than the current king of the mid-sized class – the Hyundai Verna.
The Hyundai Verna is a good looking car, both inside and out. And, this is also partly the reason for its success. It looks modern and racy; upmarket and showy. And, now with its newly designed 16-inch alloy wheels and LED garnish for the projector type head lamps, there’s a hint more freshness to its design. Even otherwise, the Verna’s well defined lines and detailing, good proportions and a swopping roof line have always helped it give an added dose of visual drama missing in the competition.
Honda has released a dramatic new picture of the all-new Honda City Type R, which will make its global debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show
With the Geneva Motor show just a forthnight away, Honda has teased the first ever picture of the new 2015 Honda Civic Type R. The Honda Civic Type R is one of the most legendary hot hatchbacks in the world and is often said to be one of the best front-wheel-drive cars made. Currently in its 4th generation, the new 5th generation Honda Civic Type R, which will officially go on sale in 2015 and make its much-awaited global debut at the Geneva Motor show.
A first glance at the picture makes most Honda fans heave a sigh of relief. The outlandish design that made the likes of the Type-3 Honda Civic Type R a favourite are back. Calling it a race car for the roads, the designers at Honda have gone kamikaze with their design incorporating wild bodywork into the design. From the picture, what immediately comes to notice are the wide wheel arches and the integrated large rear spoiler that seamlessly fuses into the tail lamps of the new Honda Civic Type R.

The Honda Civic Type R has always features the VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) and later iVTEC engine, which uses different camshaft profiles to produce extra power when it's needed. This new model should be quicker and more efficient than before, thanks to the new Turbo VTEC engines but should make the car a very different beast to drive as compared to older generations of this legendary hot hatchback. The 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine is expected to produce about 300PS of power and 400Nm of peak torque. 0-100kmph times are expected to be around the 6 second mark making it go up against the equally capable Volkswagen Golf GTi.

The new variant gets extra safety kit such as dual front airbags and ABS with EBD
Honda Cars India is expanding its Amaze line-up with a new safety package variant sitting a notch below the top-end variants. The Amaze in SX trim will get driver and passenger airbags and ABS with EBD in addition to features from the S variant.
The Amaze SX is priced at Rs 6.22 lakh for the petrol and Rs 7.12 lakh for the Diesel variant (ex-showroom Delhi).
Honda has launched the new City at Rs 7.42 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi and the trims on offer are quite impressive. But which City variant should you go for?
There is immense buzz around the new City. Honda says that it has received 9,000 pre-launch bookings already and that’s even before the car had arrived at dealerships. Now that it has, you have a choice of petrol and a diesel engine in five trims each with manual transmission and a CVT equipped petrol City in two trims. So which one should you go for? Read on.
The New Honda City’s prices start from Rs 7.42 lakh for the base petrol ‘E’ variant, a whole Rs 90,000 cheaper than the base 1.6 petrol Hyundai Verna. The base ‘E’ variant isn’t as bare-bones as we expected – you get electrically adjustable outside rear view mirrors, all four power windows, driver side airbag and ABS with EBD.
The New City will be powered by a diesel engine for the first time. Bookings frenzy expected
Honda has finally launched the much awaited new 2014 City at a starting price of Rs 7.42 lakh for the petrol model. The new Honda City diesel’s prices start from Rs 8.62 lakh and the new Honda City Automatic will cost Rs 9.49 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.
This fourth generation City’s design is an evolution over the outgoing model rather than a revolution. But in its latest avatar, Honda has upped the game by making it a lot more upmarket. The car looks more premium, the quality of materials are better and there’s more space for the occupants. The Japanese carmaker has also focused on the rear seat, which now is plusher and gets more legroom. The new City also gets more features than before.

With the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine under its hood, the new City takes on the 1.6-litre CRDi equipped Verna. Find out how it stacks up against the current segment leader
If there’s one car that can give the new Honda City Diesel sleepless nights, it is the Hyundai Verna. The Verna is the current segment leader with its diesel engine portfolio commanding the lion’s share. But, it hasn’t had it easy; it has had to contend with the likes of the Nissan Sunny and the Volkswagen Vento. The question is – can the new Honda City Diesel beat the Verna at its own game?
The new 2014 Honda City is a few days away and we gives you a quick comparison between the older third-generation Honda City and the new 2014 Honda City to tell you what is new
To start of with, as we have mentioned earlier too, the new Honda City looks like an evolution of the old Honda City in some ways. Although the basic silhouette may appear to be the same, there is not one single body panel that has been passed on from the old car to the new one.
Honda looks at the Brio platform for affordable SUV to take on the Ford EcoSport
Honda Cars India had revealed an ambitious plan. The plan was to have three body types on the Brio platform – hatch (Brio), sedan (Amaze) and MPV (Mobilio), and three body types on the City platform – hatch (Jazz), sedan (City) and an SUV (Vezel). All these cars are now ready and some have already made their debut in India as well. The Brio and the Amaze have been doing good business and the Honda City due for launch on the 7th of January, will most definitely take this momentum forward.
But, as we are aware, the most popular body style currently in India, is the SUV. But, Honda isn’t rushing in with the Vezel just yet. Honda has realised that the Honda Vezel may prove to be too expensive for a price sensitive market like India where they have successfully undercut rivals like Maruti with the Honda Amaze. The Vezel, based on the Jazz platform (on which the City is also based) will be considerably more expensive to manufacture than the City, which will put it in the Rs 14-16 lakh segment.

The Honda City Diesel is one of the most important cars for 2014. But here are 10 reasons why you should buy one!
Yes, the new 2014 Honda City may not be a revolutionary change as compared to the last generation car but it still looks pretty stunning from most angles. The crisp Japanese Honda face is complemented well with the very European rear end. The new 2014 Honda City Diesel is a well-proportioned car in general with a well-defined form and some very distinctive styling features.
So, Honda has discontinued the Accord. And the Passat from Volkswagen isn't available off the shelve either. And the reason for this, are poor sales numbers since the beginning of 2013. Now, both these cars are large, luxury items with price tags of almost Rs 30 lakh; a segment that's actually growing! So what went wrong?
Clearly, the Indian customer is willing to spend, and spend a decent sum for a set of luxury wheels; otherwise our inboxes won’t be choked with sales reports from Audi and Mercedes, month after month. But, the Indian customer isn’t willing to settle for a car that doesn’t have the right badge on the nose. If you consider the Accord and the Audi A4 for instance, the Honda is larger, more comfortable and way better suited as a chauffeur driven car. It isn’t exactly short on equipment, either. Yes, the build quality and the materials aren’t as good as on the Audi, but overall, it still makes a lot of sense.
The only reason for the Accord’s failure then, is the badge – when it comes to snob value a Honda can’t complete with an Audi, not in India. Another strong contributor for Accord’s slow sales, of course, has been the lack of a diesel engine.
