We take a closer look at what will be Mercedes' star offering in 2014
This is Mercedes’ year of excellence, which in simple words means that the German firm will launch what it considers its defining products in India in 2014. We have already seen the advent of the new S-Class, a car that has literally rewritten the rules in its category, be it luxury or technology.
Next up, will be the GLA-Class. The GLA which is based on the same MFA platform as the A- and B-Class is Mercedes’ smallest SUV offering yet. Okay, it’s not exactly an SUV; it’s more a crossover, but with 4-Matic and reasonably acceptable ground clearance, and approach and departure angles, it can take the mildly rough in its stride.
That’s the story internationally. In India, there’s a high possibility that the GLA will only be sold as a front wheel drive with 4-Matic not being offered even as an option. It will come to India via the CBU route, so getting a 4-Matic shouldn’t really be an issue. But, Mercedes’ argument seems fair too. It says that given the market demands, if the two versions (FWD and AWD) offer exactly the same styling kit on the outside, and comfort, convenience and luxury on the inside, no urban GLA owner would want to pay extra for all wheel drive. So, reluctantly, we do see the point.
Two of the most powerful street-legal cars on the planet recently went head-to-head on the highways of Russia. Filled with racing fuel and set to maximum boost, heavily-modified versions of the Nissan GT-R and the Lamborghini Gallardo squared-off in an epic (and incredibly unsafe) showdown for the ages.The Nissan GT-R AMS Alpha 12+ kicks out a wild 1,500 horsepower when filled with racing fuel. Running on Toyo Proxes R88 tires, it took on the Underground Racing Twin Turbo Gallardo.

A Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG supercar has been recently crashed in Italy after the driver lost control of the wheel and left the road.
Where ever there will be exotic cars there will also be exotic car crashes and until people will have to get a different driver’s license before being allowed to drive or own a powerful vehicle, scenes like this will continue to appear. The latest example of such an unfortunate incident is coming from Italy, where a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG has definitely seen better days.
Before you say anything, no, you haven’t been dropped into a real-life version of Groundhog Day. Yes, this is an article on a widebody kit from Prior Design for the current generation Mercedes-Benz CL-class full-size coupe. No, it’s not the one from February, as this is based on the facelifted (2011-and-up) C216 CL. However, that’s far from being the only difference.
The most obvious change is the exterior finish. The earlier example is matte black with subdued matte gray side stripes, while this V2 is matte gray with large matte black graphics concentrated mostly on the doors. The wheels are also a different style, and feature a satin rather than gunmetal finish.
Automotive photographer Michael Gerlin visited the beautiful Austrian city of Velden at the Wörther See near the border of Italy. At the city he spotted a large group of supercars that he captured with his camera.
He came across cars like the Affolter Murcielago, McLaren SLR Roadster, TechArt Grand GT, KTM X-bow, some Rolls Royce Phantoms and many 458′s and LP560′s. Most shots were taken at the Casino or near the Schlosshotel in Velden.
The DVLA is to auction the ideal plate for the Mercedes owner that has everything.
It will go under the hammer at Mercedes Benz World on September 6th, just to ram home the message, but the owner will have to wait a year before using it on the public road, as the 63 plate will not become valid until September 2013.
The reserve is set at £2,000, but the final price will probably depend on whether Mercedes chooses to buy it. Car companies love having their own plates: for example Porsche has A 911, and Chrysler used to re-arrange the plate on the UK Viper press car to read WOW HOT (it started out as WOW 110T, but a strategically placed black screw after the first 1 did the trick).
The Mercedes CLS is the four-door coupe version of the E Class – and now there is an estate version.
Looking a bit like a normal E Class estate that has been sat upon, the CLS Shooting Brake is intended to combine style and (a little) carrying capacity. In fact the maximum carrying capacity is 1550 litres – exactly the same as the far smaller Vauxhall Astra. With a pretty small boot (given that it is very nearly five metres long) and no four wheel drive, it is going to be bought on looks alone. With a starting price of £49,360, there can surely be no less cost-effective estate or SUV on the market.
It's been around since over a year, but sales have been slow since
the big Benz was only available in a petrol variant. Now finally Mercedes-Benz has
brought in a diesel variant in the form of the R350 CDI 4MATIC. The
R-Class has a lot going for it, promising sedan like performance,
all-wheel-drive SUV confidence and Mercedes-Benz safety
in a luxurious package with first class seating for up to seven, the
R-Class practically defies categorization while redefining practicality.
The R350 CDI gets a 2987cc V6 diesel engine mated to a 7G-TRONIC with
4WD transmission. The best bit about the R-Class however is the insides.
The four-door vehicle has a wide-opening tailgate, can easily
accommodate 7 full size adults, and has lots of head and elbow room for
all the occupants. The versatile interior boasts a generous luggage
compartment capable of accommodating between 633 and 2385 litres.
Promising an entertaining drive is the Direct-Steer system
and air suspensions at the rear the R-Class offers the car-like driving
pleasure of a saloon together with the flexibility of an MPV. The
R-Class is priced at Rs. 58.9 lakh ex-showroom Delhi.
