Skoda India has launched the final version of the current generation Skoda Rapid in India. The new Skoda Rapid Ultima will be the last version of the car in its current guise before an all-new version makes its way to the Indian market sometime mid-2014. The Skoda Rapid Ultima will be available with both petrol and diesel engine options and is priced between Rs 8.33-9.97 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Following the teaser rendering
released earlier this month, Skoda has now shown the first photos of the VisionC study, scheduled to debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Skoda says the VisionC is its first "five-door coupe", but the carmaker doesn’t give up its practical side though, as the study features a large hatch.
With the VisionC Skoda says its
design language becomes “more expressive, dynamic and emotional”. Furthermore, the study also demonstrates the possibilities in “innovative and emotional chassis design”, always according to Skoda.
The study features sharp lines combined with soft, slightly contoured concave and convex surfaces. The front end plays with the triangle shape, which can be seen in the design of the headlights and fog lights, while at the rear the boomerang-shaped taillights appear to push the car to the ground. The tailights also form a triangle together with a crease in the bodywork and they reveal another triangle when they are viewed from the side.
Skoda has refreshed its flagship model in India in line with its current family design language
Skoda India cars are getting a new look. First came the new Octavia in late 2013 and now the Czech carmaker has launched the facelifted Superb at Rs 18.87 lakh ex-showroom Delhi. These two cars will be followed by the Yeti facelift later in the year and finally the refreshed Rapid by the end of 2014.
The refreshed Superb gets new headlights, taillights and new front and rear bumper design as well. Giving the Superb Skoda’s new design language treatment is the grille and the new Skoda Logo. It also gets a new bonnet design with creases extending towards the windscreen from the logo. The new Superb gets redesigned front fenders to go with the new front-end design and completing the refresh package are the new 16 inch alloy wheels.
The Superb gets a mid-cycle refresh and in this latest guise, is as good a value package as it ever was. We take it for a quick spin
The Skoda Superb has been on sale for the past 10 years. And in this time, it has received a generation change once. The new for 2014 Superb isn't a generation change though; in fact, we won't even term it as a dramatic facelift, but facelift it certainly is.
So, the new Superb - in typical facelift mould - gets new head and tail lamps and revised bumpers both front and back. Additionally, the bonnet design has changed and it now houses the Skoda logo, in line with Skoda's new design philosophy. The grille too follows this new design language, which was first revealed on the new Octavia in India.
Here are five facts you need to know if you plan to purchase the updated Skoda Superb
It's a facelift
The new Skoda Superb is a facelift and not an all new generation car. So, it still doesn't use the much-hyped MQB modular platform which incidentally, its more affordable sibling, the new Octavia uses. The new Superb’s dimensions remain the same including the wheelbase and the engine options haven't changed either. What the new Skoda Superb gets is Skoda's new design language. At the front, it gets a reprofiled hood and revised fenders, a new bumper design and brand new headlights with LED daytime running lights. At the rear, the tail lamps are now full LEDs, the number plate has moved up to the boot lid from the bumper, and the bumper itself has been redesigned. Inside, the changes are minimal. The automatic versions get a new three-spoke steering wheel with paddle shifters while the sole manual version gets a four-spoke steering wheel, but again, the design for the wheel has changed. Otherwise, the interiors continue unchanged.

With the new Octavia, Skoda is all set to once again make a place for itself in the D-segment sedan class. Will this new iteration of the endeared offering taste as much success as its previous generations? We take it for a spin to find out
If Skoda today is a well recognised and trusted brand, it has a lot to do with the way it started off here in India. By bringing in the Skoda Octavia as their first car on offer in the early 2000s, they made all the right moves to mark its entry into a market in which growth had no bounds as long as the product was incomparable. Of course there are oodles of other factors that influence the way a brand is perceived but for Skoda, the Octavia was just what they needed to make a strong first impression.
