BMW M6 Gran Coupe Preview : Auto Expo 2014

BMW gets a dash of excitement into its range with its 4-door M6 Gran Coupe
BMW has added a third body variant to its BMW M6, the Gran Coupe 4-door adding to its current range comprising of the Coupe and the Cabriolet. The BMW M6 Gran Coupe is the motorsport version of the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe saloon which will go up against the likes of the newly launched Audi RS7 and the soon to be launched Mercedes CLS63 AMG.
The BMW M6 Gran Coupe stylistically builds on the 6 Series Gran Coupe with a more aggressive body kit including a special carbon fibre roof that is exclusive to the BMW M models. The M6 Gran Coupe comes with 19-inch or optional 20-inch alloy wheels with an aggressive design, which adds to the sporty appeal of the M6 Gran Coupe. The M6 Gran Coupe also gets a set of much sportier bumpers including a larger air intake on the front combined with flared wheel arches. The rear bumper also gets the trademark BMW M quad-pipes and a diffuser that adds to both visual appeal of the M6 Gran Coupe and adds to the performance aspect of the car.

2014 Auto Expo: Future Cars - Cross Hatchbacks

We take a detailed look at the cross hatchback launched at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo
The cross hatchback segment has never really caught the fancy of the auto manufacturers that sell cars in the country. Recently though, the 2014 Indian Auto Expo painted a very different picture when it came to these alternative hatchbacks. With three cross hatchbacks on display at the Expo and another one displayed a few months ago, India suddenly has a spate of these rather unusual cars.
Volkswagen of course was the first to launch a cross hatchback in the country with it’s Cross Polo last year and as expected, there was one on display at the Volkswagen stall at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. The Cross Polo was essentially higher and slightly taller Polo with extra plastic claddings that give the appearance of a tougher outdoorsy vehicle. Predictably though, Volkswagen have sold only a handful of the Polo Cross which makes us wonder whether the Indian audiences are ready for such a concept yet.

Fiat Avventura preview : Auto Expo 2014

Fiat has forayed into the 'cross' segment with the Fiat Avventura Cross concept. We take a detailed look
The Cross or ‘styled-for-ruggedness’ segment is one that has never really been explored by any manufacturer in India. This might be due to the fact that the Indian audience has always been interested in the more traditional body styles like the hatchback, sedan and SUV, and in recent times, the compact sedan. Browsing through the many stalls at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo though one might think differently. With three new cross hatchbacks unveiled to the Indian public, this segment is finally gathering up some steam.

Mahindra Mojo Preview

After prolonged delay, Mahindra finally showcased its production-spec Mojo at the 2014 Auto Expo. We take a closer look at the flagship offering scheduled for a June 2014 launch
When Mahindra first showcased the Mojo in 2012, it created quite a stir among the Indian two-wheeler enthusiasts, some owing to its technical specifications and some due to its quirky styling. Surprisingly though, instead of launching the bike even after announcing the prices, Mahindra decided to postpone the launch by few years to further develop the bike. By late 2013, spy pictures of the Mojo being tested started surfacing on the internet thus sending the message that Mahindra were all set to launch the bike soon. At the 2014 Auto Expo, Mahindra finally unveiled the production ready Mojo. The Mahindra flagship has gone through a few design changes from the first model that was showcased a few years ago.

The headlight fascia has been reworked and the twin headlamps receive a separate body shell of their own with DRL (Daytime Running Lights). The tank has also been redesigned with a knee recesses and it now flows better with the overall silhouette of the bike. The LED turn indicators integrated in the mirrors, which were present in the older model, have been given a miss in the production model. It has retained the “gold ribs” (two horizontal golden bars below the tank), which is also seen on the Mahindra Centuro. The basic silhouette of the Mojo has been maintained on the new model and the subtle updates have made it more visually pleasing.

Maruti modified Swift Volt, SX4 Sport, Grand Vitara Luxion: Auto Expo

Maruti Suzuki India launched Celerio, and showcased two soon-to-be-launched cars for India, SX4 S-Cross and Ciaz. Apart from this, they also showcased a range of modified cars. This includes SX4 Sport, WagonR XREST, Swift Volt, Swift Sport, Gypsy Escapade, Grand Vitara Luxion, Ertiga Altair, EECO PikNik, DZire Opula, Alto 800 Browzer, Alto K10 Krescendo, Omni licious Cafe, and Ritz Jubilo.
Speaking about the Swift Volt, it features new color scheme of white, black and red. The car looks too flashy, and comes in with a 1.2l petrol or 1.3l diesel engine. It features a new bumper with smoked headlamps, a new rear bumper with spoiler, and smoked taillights. On the inside, it has black leather seats with a sport steering whee. The car is just an idea from Maruti to what their current owners can do to their Swift.

Same goes for Suzuki SX4 Sport. This one covers racing livery with bright blue paint and yellow/black lines. Interior features sports seats and sporty dashboard. The designers have kept a finer eye and given the car a proper detailing. Sadly, there are no powerful engine options and you will have to settle for the 1.3l diesel or the 1.6 petrol.

DC Design unveils Tia and Eleron Concepts

1500 units of both cars will be produced cumulatively by 2016; over 185 crores already invested in manufacturing facility
DC Design today revealed two new concepts at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo – the Tia small car and Eleron SUV. Both cars will be produced in 2016 with a capacity of 500 units for the Eleron and 1000 units for the Tia per annum.
The Eleron is a two-door targa-topped SUV which really isn’t a logical concept to enter into production but outrageous concepts are what define the popular automotive design company so the concept is line with DC’s radical approach. It will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine developing 269 PS of power and 360 Nm of torque. The Eleron has a claimed top-speed of 200 Kmph and hits the ton from standstill in 9 seconds. The engine is mated to a five speed automatic and will be available as an all-wheel drive. It gets double wishbone front suspension and air suspension for the rear wheels.

The SUV stance on the Redi-Go can’t be ignored though and we won’t be surprised if it spawns a compact SUV too since this segment has taken the Indian market by storm. Besides the heightened suspension though, the Redi-Go looks like a tall-boy hatchback. It sports similar design cues seen in the Go and Go+ like the trapezoidal front grille, the elongated headlights that stretch towards the A-pillar and the prominent shoulder line. The rear features boomerang shaped taillights and a high set bumper. The Redi-Go concept has 2350mm ground clearance indicating its off-roading intensions and sports 15 inch alloy wheels.

Bajaj Pulsar CS 400 preview

Bajaj has unveiled a stunner in the Pulsar CS 400. Here's an in depth look
In our run up to the 2014 Indian Auto Expo we had revealed that Bajaj is readying a new take on the cruiser genre of motorcycles. You can read more about it here. At that time we had mentioned that the new Bajaj cruiser will be a power cruiser. And the new Pulsar CS 400 is just that. The design inspiration for the motorcycle is varied; the headlamp and front fairing come across as an evolution of the Pulsar 200 NS design and so does the longer fuel tank. But, overall, the Pulsar CS 400 reminds one of a scaled down Diavel from Ducati. The end result is a motorcycle that looks stunning. It has eyeball grabbing road presence and it is an agreeable blend of muscles and athleticism. We love the way the visual mass is centralised and the attention to detail - for the wheel, the footrest hangers and the swing arm in particular - is top notch.

Piaggio will be unveiling two new scooters at the upcoming 2014 Auto expo, which include the Vespa S and the Vespa 946. The Vespa S, will be the third scooter offering for the Indian from the stables of the Italian manufacturer. The Vespa S is the sportier version of the VX and the major distinctive visual feature of the Vespa S is its 1970s-styled square headlights in contrast to the round one found on the standard Vespa and VX. To distinguish the scooter further, the mudguard on the scooter has been cut back further to reveal more of the front suspension and the 5-spoke alloys. Also the seat profile has been changed.

Fiat Punto Avventure to be unveiled at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo

Fiat India will thrill auto enthusiasts by possibly unveiling its Abarth Punto Grande Evo and Fiat 500 Abarth at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo
Fiat India has been on a lull recently. Apart from a few variant launches, mainly a low priced Fiat Linea Classic range and two new top-of-the-line offerings in the Linea and Punto range, the Italian giant has been sleeping dormant in India. The 2014 Indian Auto Expo may very well be the stage they need to inject some genuinely deserved enthusiasm into this underestimated brand.
Fiat Punto Avventure

The first infusion of freshness comes in the form of a crossover version of the Fiat Punto hatchback. The Fiat Punto Avventure, as it is rumoured to be called will feature typical crossover styling like the CrossPolo or the soon to be launched Etios Crossover. The Punto sports a tailgate mounted spare wheel and plastic claddings which gives it a tougher and much more outdoorsy look,  that might appeal to a certin strata of society. In our opinion though, the crossover style does not really suit a design like the Punto’s and would have synced better with the likes of a completely new car like the Fiat Panda for instance.
